PRAEDIA I. Edizione degli scavi nei Praedia di Iulia Felix e studi sulla Regio II di Pompei

This book discusses and analyses the results of five years (2016-2020) of research at Pompeii within the framework of the PRAEDIA Project (Pompeian Residential Architecture: Environmental, Digital, Interdisciplinary Archive). This cooperative project aims to contribute to a deeper and more detailed knowledge of Pompeii’s south-eastern periphery, focusing on the site’s Regio II and the surrounding areas. The volume engages with the history of this area and presents the detailed results of the geophysical prospections and stratigraphic excavations in the hortus of the Praedia of Iulia Felix (II 4). The complex was built in an area that had been part of a settlement since the Archaic period. There, the Praedia could could rely on existing infrastructure for the collection, distribution, and disposal of water.

Il volume costituisce l’edizione dei risultati dei primi cinque anni (2016-2020) di ricerche e scavi stratigrafici a Pompei nell’ambito del Progetto PRAEDIA (Pompeian Residential Architecture: Environmental, Digital, Interdisciplinary Archive). Il progetto è dedicato alla conoscenza del paesaggio architettonico e naturale del quadrante sud-est di Pompei, coincidente con la Regio II e zone limitrofe. Il volume disegna un profilo storico e storiografico dell’area e rende conto dei risultati del lavoro nell’hortus dei Praedia di Iulia Felix (II 4). I Praedia furono impostati in una zona interessata da frequentazioni fin dall’età arcaica e già dotata di efficaci infrastrutture idriche, sfruttate per le attività commerciali del complesso.
