The present study deals with the problem regarding the evidence of the monastic presence in the dioceses of Gaeta. From the 8th century until the 20th the dioceses were interested by the Benedictine order, but the general picture of the previous time is mostly fragmentary and hard to determine. In this work we aimed to give a general overview of the story of monasticism in the dioceses starting with the very few information we have regarding the pre-Benedictine era, going through the arrival of the Benedictine monasticism and passing through the crises of the monasticism in the 13th century and through the strengthening of the control of the Monastery of Montecassino. A new reading of the ancient medieval sources made possible the topographical geolocation of the scarce remains of these monasteries, still visible today, through the use of the GIS-Open Source and in this study, for this reason, only some of these case studies are analysed.
