In 1917, Pablo Picasso made his journey to Italy and he was also in Naples; most likely he visited the archaeological museum of the city (as well as the ruins of Pompeii) and was especially impressed by Vesuvian paintings. The visual contact with the art of the Ancients influenced his later works. This paper shows the situation of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli in that year.

Abstract
