Il display dell'albero genealogico

This essay offers a first overview on the domestic display of family trees (painted and engraved) of Florentine noble families. Their growing number emerging from the inventories and their preservation in the halls of palaces and villas, demonstrate the growing importance of these artifacts in strategies of dynastic self-representation, that is well exemplified by their large-size and placement alongside family portraits and portraits of sovereigns. Moreover, the analysis of the artifacts in their historic spaces, according to the “display of art”, opens to an understanding of the formal and iconographic evolution of the artifacts, which infact were adapted over time to meet different narrative needs.

Il contributo offre una prima panoramica sui criteri di esposizione domestica degli alberi genealogici - incisi e dipinti – nelle dimore del patriziato fiorentino. Il numero crescente di esemplari documetati dagli inventari e spesso conservati tutt’oggi nei saloni di palazzi e ville dimostra l’importanza crescente di questi manufatti nelle strategie di autorappresentazone dinastica, ben esemplate dalla crescita dimensionale e dalla presetazione accanto ai ritratti familiari o dei sovrani regnanti. D’altro canto, la stessa anali dei manufatti negli spazi dell’esposizione – ispirata al metodo del display of art – apre alla comprensione dell’evoluzione formale e iconografica dei manufatti, adattati nel tempo a rispondere a esigenze “narrative” differenti.
