Abstract

A new archival document enriches our knowledge of the formation and dispersion of Giuseppe Valletta’s vase collection, gathered in Naples at the end of the 18th century: it is the travel journal of Francesco Bianchini, who visited Naples in 1702 on behalf of the Holy See. In this personal diary, Bianchini described some vases from Valletta collection and sketched two of them. A drawing depicts the so called “Lasimos vase”, today in Paris, which is well-known thanks to the inscription on the shoulder.
